Full Title: Freemasonry and Catholicism: An exposition of the Cosmic Facts Underlying These Two Great Institutions As Determined by Occult Investigation

“The Rosicrucian Fellowship aims to educate and construct, to be charitable even to those from whom we differ, and never to vent the venom of vituperation, spite, or malice even upon those who seem deliberately determined to mislead. We revere the Catholic religion; it is as divine in its essence, as Mystic Masonry both, are rooted in hoary antiquity, both were born to further the aspiration of the striving soul, and both have a message and a mission in the world not apparent upon the surface today, because man-made ceremonial as a scale has hidden the kernel of divinity in each. It is the object of the present articles to remove that scale and show the Cosmic purpose of these two Great Organizations, which are so bitterly antagonistic to each other. We do not aim to reconcile them, however, for though they are both designed to farther the emancipation of the soul, their methods are different, and Jjbg attributes of the soul fostered by one method will indeed be very different from the quality of the soul nurtured in the other school. Therefore the strife must continue until the battle for the souls of men has been lost and won. The issue is not, however, the persistence of the Masonic or Catholic institutions; but the outcome will determine the nature of the training humanity will receive in the remaining Periods of our evolution. We shall endeavor to show the cosmic root of both of these institutions, the purpose of each and the training which each will inaugurate, if successful ; also the nature of the soul quality which may be expected to result from each method. “

Few among the Church’s writers surpass St. Francis de Sales in the skillful use of comparisons drawn from nature to illustrate the operations of grace in the spiritual life. Here the choicest of St. Francis’s spiritual comparisons drawn from plants and flowers are collected together – arranged to form a perfect treatise on the devout life, from its first principles to its consummation, according to the plan laid down by the saint himself in his ascetic writings. A book to delight gardeners and naturalists alike, looking at the virtues of more than sixty plants, flowers and fruits in the garden of the soul.

Saint Francis comes in from the garden with his hands full of spiritual comparisons from the flowers he has found in bloom – through his words our souls become as vividly conscious of the truth he expounds as our senses would be of the flower of which he speaks, were we to hold its stem in our hands and breathe in its fragrance.

The Book of Enoch, written during the second century B.C.E., is one of the most important non-canonical apocryphal works, and probably had a huge influence on early Christian, particularly Gnostic, beliefs. Filled with hallucinatory visions of heaven and hell, angels and devils, Enoch introduced concepts such as fallen angels, the appearance of a Messiah, Resurrection, a Final Judgement, and a Heavenly Kingdom on Earth. Interspersed with this material are quasi-scientific digressions on calendrical systems, geography, cosmology, astronomy, and meteorology.

One of the main influences from the book is its explanation of evil coming into the world with the arrival of the fallen angels. Enoch acts as a scribe, writing up a petition on behalf of these fallen angels, or fallen ones, to be given to a higher power for ultimate judgment. Christianity adopted some ideas from Enoch, including the Final Judgment, the concept of demons, the origins of evil and the fallen angels, and the coming of a Messiah and ultimately, a Messianic kingdom.

THE BOOK OF ENOCH was ultimately removed from the Bible and banned by the early church. Copies of it were found to have survived in Ethiopia, and fragments in Greece and Italy. Like the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Library, the Book of Enoch, translated from the original Ethiopian Coptic script, is a rare resource that was suppressed by the early church and thought destroyed.

The Book of Enoch describes the fall of the Watchers, the angels who fathered the Nephilim. The fallen angels went to Enoch to intercede on their behalf with God after he declared to them their doom. The remainder of the book describes Enoch’s visit to Heaven in the form of a vision, and his revelations.

The Book of Dream Visions (1 Enoch 83 – 90) (Also called the Book of Dreams)

Commonly called the Gospel according to St. John. Are you ready for the esoteric message of the Gospel never before so clearly revealed? Contents: The Seen and the Unseen; The Four Evangels; The Drama of the Soul; Explanatory Note; The Magical Message according to Ioannes; The Prodigal Son; The Birth from Above; Index. St. John the mystic, calls to you. Listen to this inspiring message of faith, hope, love, and mystical achievement.

That the teaching of Iêsous was largely allegorical is clearly apparent from the subject matter of the four Evangels, as well as from such express statements as that in Matthew xiii. 34: ” ALL these things Iêsous spoke to the people in parables, and without a parable he did not speak [anything] to them.” That the teaching had an inner and concealed meaning, divulged only to the few who were worthy to receive it, is evident from many passages in the New Testament; and it was so held by all the early Christian sects, and plainly admitted by the patristic writers. But, in addition to this allegorical teaching, certain rules of right-conduct are given, which constitute, not a mere arbitrary code of ethics, but one based upon the laws of man’s inner nature, his relation to Deity, to Nature, and to his fellow-beings. It is only by living according to these rules of right-conduct that the will of the man comes into harmony with the will of The God ; and in Iôannês (vii. 17) the final test is laid down : ” If any one wills to do his will, he shall have knowledge about the teaching, whether it is from The God.”
